Today is the first day of school sorry I mean the Back to School Book Blogger Challenge hosted by Rachel @ Parajunkee. Classes (I mean the challenge) takes place over the course of nine days. And you can see the lesson plan below to learn more about what we will be learning / teaching on each day.

My Dream Lesson Plan

I really have no idea what my dream lesson plan would be. That being said, I would love if I could assign reading assignments from more “modern” books. You know, not books written in 16th Century English. As much as I love Shakespeare, I think some change can be good. That being said, I still don’t know what book I would assign. I’ll be honest, I’m not a really big fan of classics. More modern classics, 20th century stuff (The Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird etc…) are pretty good reads, but I still like 21st century stuff even more.

If I were to teach middle school English, I would probably assign Divergent by Veronica Roth to teach students that they do not have to be defined by one single characteristic and that it is okay to be unique. Or maybe I’ll make them read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green to teach them to live life to the fullest while you still have a chance. Or maybe Uninvited by Sophie Jordan to teach students that you don’t have to be defined by what other people label you as. But like I said before, I don’t know which one I would pick. And yes, I’m aware my picks do more to teach life lessons than English, but I firmly believe that some life lessons just have to be taught in order for them to be understood.

Tell me about your lesson plans.
What book(s) would you assign?
(Or you can just, you know, leave a comment with a link to your post…)

    • Yes! At least one person thinks more modern literature should be included in the curriculum (and that crying in the classroom due to a book would be okay)!

Thanks for stopping by Whitney! 🙂
