Introducing YA in Real Life – The Breakdown

YA in Real Life, which will sometimes be abbreviated to YA IRL, is a new feature I really want to do. One of my friends in school, aka in real life, gave me this idea. The feature is basically going to discuss issues presented in books and how they translate in… well, in real life. It’s a bit different from my “Investigated” posts so that’s why it has a separate name, even though it still kind of is a discussion post.

Sometimes I will focus on and breakdown a YA book I feel illustrates a lot of real world problems. Other times I will pick the issue and discuss how it’s presented in YA books. It really could both ways.

And lets get one thing straight. This feature is not about ME in real life. It’s not my life and the issues I encounter in it. It’s about real life issues that just happen to be mentioned in YA books. Such as having strong heroines in YA novels and how it helps / what it means for feminism. That kind of thing. Another thing I feel I have to say, is that none of these posts are meant to offend anyone. So if you don’t like it, just don’t read it. I’m not looking to please, only to state what I think and feel.

What do you think?
Do you have any ideas of what I do?

  1. Really like the premise of your new feature, can’t wait to see what topics you discuss! One topic that immediately popped into my head is the whole love triangle thing. I know it’s not a serious subject, but it’s soooo prevalent in YA books, but does that actually happen in real life?!? I distinctly remember NOT having that problem as a teenager, snort 😀
