Today’s topic is “Best Books You’ve Read In 2017 So Far” but I’m going to change it up. Instead of the best books I read in 2017, I’m going to go over all the books I’ve read this year. Yes, ALL of them – I only read 9 (more like 8.5, one is a novella) books so this list isn’t going to be too long. Without further ado, here are the nine 8.5 books I’ve read this year, from best to worse.
What Goes Up by Katie Kennedy

This one hasn’t been published yet (it comes out July 18th!) but I was lucky enough to snag an ARC and let me tell you, it is amazing. Action packed, funny, relatable. What more could you want from a book?
Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts
4.6 / 5 Stars
Like I mentioned in my review, Royal Bastards is one of the best high fantasy novels that I’ve read. It’s refreshing and a bit different with the depth of character development and growth it has.
The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
4.5 / 5 Stars
Okay so this was a reread but given how I still remember its plot and characters from when I last read it over a year ago, there’s no denying how much I love this book. There is nothing I like more than a conspiracy theory.
Mischief & Magnolia by Kristi Cook
4.3 / 5 Stars
This is the novella that makes my total books read count go up by only 0.5, but Goodreads doesn’t know that. I stand by what I said in my review – it’s a really cute follow up to Magnolia.
Proof of Lies by Diana Rodriguez Wallach
4 / 5 Stars
A mystery + fast paced plot + hot cute boy = recipe for a good book.
The Long Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
3.8 / 5 Stars
The Long Game wasn’t as good as The Fixer, the first book in the series. It didn’t quite manage to draw me in completely and I was left with a lot of unanswered questions at the end. Which is sad because at this point of time, there will be no sequel.
By Your Side by Kasie West

It was cute and fluffy and I liked its portrayal of anxiety but I feel like it didn’t take advantage of its potential. The plot was a bit bland and it felt like all the problems just solved themselves.
RoseBlood by A.G. Howard

My review of RoseBlood pretty much sums up how I feel about it. It was an interesting take on Phantom of the Opera but it was missing something and I didn’t quite like how it ended. And then there’s the fact that some people think it’s a problematic book…
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco

The Bone Witch is defintely my most disappointing read so far. You can read my review to find out all the reasons why I didn’t like it but in short, it was very wordy and slow paced.

I was keen to read The Bone Witch at first but I’ve seen so many disappointed reviews.
I think the concept was interesting (and the cover is gorgeous) but the writing is so very descriptive. There was a lot going on but it still felt slow for some reason.
I’ve heard so many good things about Royal Bastards this week! I’m going to have to add it to my TBR, because it sounds so fun. It’s exciting that you’ve enjoyed most of the books you’ve read this year – I just seem to be picking up disappointment after disappointment at the moment…

Yes! But it’s only a novella. Still, something is better than nothing and it’s just as good as Magnolia.

Yes! You should definitely pick it up. It’s one of my favorite high fantasy novels. Ever.
I have “The Fixer” on my Kindle but haven’t read it yet but I’m close to finishing Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ “The Naturals” series and found those books really addictive and definitely not what I had expected from YA thrillers. Once I’m done with the fourth and last book I’m going to read “The Fixer” asap! 🙂

The Naturals series is really good! I didn’t like the love triangle in the first book but the other two books had less romance and the cases were absolutely thrilling!
Great list! I’ve really enjoyed The Naturals series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and have The Fixer on my TBR list. I’m reading Ensnared by A.G. Howard at the moment and have Roseblood on my TBR list. It sounds like you were iffy on that one, but I’m interested in the Phantom story line.

I thought RoseBlood was a pretty decent read, but I just felt like it was missing something that prevented it from reaching its full potential. I still have to read The Naturals series. If I remember correctly it’s like a mash-up of The Body Finder + Ally Carter?
Yes, Proof of Lies does sound good. Mysteries are a lot of fun to read on long, summer days when it’s too warm to do anything active.

I actually have been told that it has been approved for a sequel, though I don’t know if it’s expected to be a duology, trilogy, etc. I’m hearing sales for it have been awesome and the responses have been overwhelming positive across the board, so I’m crossing my fingers for a trilogy!
Oh, that awesome! I figured there was at least one sequel in the works based on how it ended but Goodreads didn’t count it as a series so I was a bit confused. I hope it’ll be a trilogy too! And that all future books will be just as good, if not better. 🙂

I can’t believe I’ve only read 9-ish books so far this year either. In my defense, I spent most of the year in college. But I also had more free time than last year so I don’t know, I guess reading slumps got the best of me. 🙁
