Review – SIA

TITLE: Sia

SYNOPSIS: When seventeen-year-old Sia wakes up on a park bench, she has no idea who or where she is. Yet after a week of being homeless, she’s reunited with her family. At school, she’s powerful and popular. At home, she’s wealthy beyond her dreams. But she quickly realizes her perfect life is a lie. Her family is falling apart and her friends are snobby, cruel and plastic. Worse yet, she discovers she was the cruelest one. Mortified by her past, she embarks on a journey of redemption and falls for Kyle, the “geek” she once tormented. Yet all the time she wonders if, when her memories return, she’ll become the bully she was before…and if she’ll lose Kyle.

REVIEW: SIA tells the story of a seventeen year old girl called Sia who wakes up one day not knowing how she got there (it appears she went on a run?), who she is, or what happened in the past 17 years. In short, she basically wakes up and finds out she has lost her memory. She is stuck trying to figure out WTH happened and is suddenly thrust in a new situation – survival on the streets.

Everyone who knows me knows I love unique stories. No matter what you say, I will always take enjoyment in reading books that tell stories I have never read before. Especially if the story includes other elements and themes that I enjoy reading about such as change…. Maybe that’s why I loved SIA so much. An unique and beautifully crafted story about self discovery, change, forgiveness, and the power of love and friendship, SIA was an enthralling read that I absolutely loved reading.

For someone just to be stuck in a totally different and dangerous situation, and not even know their name, Sia fares pretty well. She has quite a few admirable qualities. She has a brain and isn’t afraid to use it, weellll sometimes… Through the story it becomes evident that contrary to popular belief based on the past, Sia does have a heart, along with a moral conscience. What really makes her admirable is her resistance to change again and revert back to her old mean self, and her determination to make things right.

I sort of mentioned before that SIA touches upon the topic of change, but that only part of SIA. SIA is also about other themes such as forgiveness and making wrongs right. There are also mentions about giving back and of course, friendship and love. Speaking of love, the romance in this book is really cute. 🙂 Anyway if any of that sounds appealing to you, I strongly suggest you read this book. It may sound a bit cheesy, but I promise, it isn’t overly so.
