5 Dorm Essentials You Didn't Know You Needed

It’s almost August which means I have school on the brain. And most of it involves my dorm, not my academics. ? So I’m starting on dorm series on this blog since I’m a rising sophomore in college and I have a lot of tips I want to share. I hope you’ll find them all at least somewhat helpful.

Today I want to talk about 5 items. Some of them, I used a lot my Freshman year way more than I thought I would. Others, I actually had to go out and buy in the middle of the year. Without further ado, here are five items I didn’t think were essentials when I packed for college.

1. Reusable Water Bottle

You have to stay hydrated somehow. Not only are reusable more environmentally friendly, they’re also a worthwhile investment. When you’re a broke college student every penny counts.

Okay, so yeah, you can keep bringing cases and cases of bottled water but that’s a huge pain to keep buying them. Especially if you have to lug those things up a couple of flights of stairs. Just saying.

2. Sleep / Eye Mask

If you’re like me and can’t sleep when it’s bright outside then you need an eye mask. Your roommate will thank you. This way you can nap in bright daylight and go to bed when your roommate has a paper due in a few hours.

3. Large Laundry Bag

You can bring a laundry basket but owning a large laundry bag can also be incredibly helpful. Especially when you’re moving out. You can use plastic bags to carry out everything that doesn’t fit into the suitcases and containers you brought along, but they’re flimsy and week. Not to mention somewhat see-through.

4. Book Light

If you didn’t already know, I’m a bibliophile. One that likes physical books over e-books. So this book light came in handy when my roommate wanted to sleep and all I wanted to was read, read, read.

5. Chair Cusion

This one I had to buy off Amazon like a week into the Fall semester. The chair that came with my dorm was just too dang hard for my tush.
