weekly-recap

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I have decided to try to participate in all of their memes with only one post…thus Weekly Recap. I used to call this feature The Sunday Post – Stacking the Shelves but that title was too long…

A Message

Friday the 13th was a horrible day. Not for me, but for so so many people around the world. My heart goes out to anyone in Paris and Lebanon, as well as anyone who has loved ones there, and to anyone who has to face the threat of violence on any given day. I think sometimes it’s just so easy for people to say something like #PrayforParis online and just carry on with their lives because we live so far away. But while those words have meaning, they won’t actually mean something unless we put them into effect.

We don’t just have to pray for those people trapped in a world of violence, we, as human beings, have to learn tolerance and respect for others who are different and have different opinions and beliefs than us. We have to learn that violence is not the answer to solve whatever injustices we feel we face. Violence should not be used to send any type of message. We must remember that at the end of the day, no matter where we’re from, what we believe, the color of our skin, or our own personalities, we are all human beings who deserve be treated equally and with kindness and respect.

BOOK HAUL:

Brought:

The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff stopped by my local Barnes & Noble for an event/signing so that’s why I got so many of their books lately. As for The Fixer, I borrowed it from the library a while ago and really loved reading it. I loved it so much I just needed to have my own copy. Plus, the cover is so pretty…

This Week on Paging Serenity:

  • Investigated
  • Meeting Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
  • New Feature?

Life

This was not the best week for me either. That being said, I’m tired of always focusing on the negative side. The good parts about this week was that I had Wednesday off from school, which is always nice, and I got to meet Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff! I will be writing up a little recap of that event which will go up sometime next week, so keep an eye out for it. 🙂

How was your week?
Enjoy your books!

  1. You have some great books here, because they not just look good but they also sound amazing. Now imagine my TBR growing even more :)) I need a second life just for reading all the books I want. Can’t wait to see what you think of them!

    Happy reading!

    • I need a second life for reading too. I loved reading both The Fixer and This Shattered World. I haven’t started on Illuninae yet though so many people are saying it is really good.

Thanks for stopping by Crina! 🙂

  2. I agree with you, we have to make efforts not just on a given time, violence is just the easiest and silliest way to answer to aggression… Have a peaceful sunday 🙂

    • You’re welcome! I just hate it when people use tragedies to their advantage. It’s just downright disgusting when it happens.

Thank you for stopping by Steph! 🙂

  3. I agree with your thoughts about tolerance, respect and violence. Violence is never the answer, and only brews further problems. We have to become a compassionate, tolerant people of the world and accept that there are others who believe differently than we do. I teach 6th graders, and at the beginning of each school year we have to have a conversation about how it is OK to agree to disagree. How has that sentiment gotten lost in the translation to adulthood?

    • I guess that as we grow older the world becomes harsher and it becomes harder to fight the instinctive urge to believe everyone else is wrong even when they are right? If only everyone understood the importance of respecting the opinions of others, whether they agree with them or not.

Thank you for stopping by Charlie! 🙂

    • I’m hoping I’ll be able to read it next weekend! I’ve heard so many great things about it. I can’t wait to dive in. My post about meeting Jay and Amie should be going up tomorrow. 🙂

Thank you for stopping by Monica! 🙂

  4. I couldn’t agree more with your message. It breaks my heart that people will use this incident to further an agenda of hatred, rather than looking at the root causes of unrest. I am a new follower via Bloglovin. My blog is called Pondering The Prose.

    • If only everyone could understand that violence is unnecessary, the world would be a much better place.

Thank you for stopping by and for the compliment Deborah! 🙂

    • I thought the same. So many Friday the 13ths have passed without anything that terribly bad happening until the one last week. It’s so sad to see innocent people get hurt for no reason.

Thanks for stopping by Kimberly! 🙂
