June 2016 – The Most Eventful Month of My Life

I decided to change things up and try out monthly recaps instead of weekly ones, which I’m now calling ‘State of the Blog’. I’m linking this one up to two memes: Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer. 🙂

Looking Back on June

Oh my gods, I cannot believe June is already over. It flew by so fast. Maybe because it would take me forever to go over everything that happened in June in my life. But here’s the cliff notes Sparknotes (Sparknotes is way more relevant now) version. Ready?

On the first full week of June, I had Senior Prom and Post Prom (an all night event held after prom back at school with tons of activities and prizes, designed to keep kids off the road, sober, and somewhere parents can supervise). The next week, I turned eightteen, took one last walk in my high school as a student, and graduted from high school. Last week, I went to lots of graduation parties, hit up Six Flags multiple times even though I’m not the biggest fan of rollercoasters, watched Now You See Me 2 (great sequel, but not as good as the first one), and hung out with friends. This week, I went to college orientation and another two grad parties. Needless to say, June was very eventful for me.

Books Hauled

june 2016 book haul

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas

The Unfinished Life of Addison Stone by Adele Griffin

Through the Dark (The Darkest Minds #1.5, 2.5, 3.5) by Alexandra Bracken

Barnes & Noble (curse them!) had a three for $30 sale in the teen section so of course I couldn’t resist breaking my book buying ban. I was doing so well too! I managed to resist so many good BookOutlet deals and then B&N just had to come up with a way to get me to spend my money. *Sigh* The problems with being a bookworm. Your wallet will forever hate you because you can’t stop yourself from buying pretty books with beautiful stories.

Books Read

Hehe, the only two books I actually read this month were The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (which was a reread…) and The Memory Book by Lara Avery, which comes out on Tuesday. Hey, I was really busy in June okay?

Looking Forward to July

I’m super pumped for July for some reason. Which is weird, especially since I don’t think my family is going on vacation this year. 🙁 But dorm room shopping! And I hope I can attend a book blogging event in New York City.

Goals

Pretty much the same goals as usual. You know, post more, comment more, use social media more, make more friends, etc.

Posts to Look Out For

  • Plugins I Love
  • Umm…
  • Reviews?
  • … and hopefully many others! 🙂

Last Words

Even though June was super busy, I still had a blast. Hopefully, July will be a bit more relaxing and allow me to keep up with blogging.

How was your June?
What are you looking forwards to in July?

Congrats on the graduation! It sounds as though you had a great end to your high school career which is always an amazing memory to look back on! I hope you have a ton of fun dorm shopping and get to decorate your dorm so it’s super pretty and exciting! Good luck! <3

I definitely miss taking to you too! I’ve fallen so out of touch with the book blogging community which sucks! But other than that I’ve been really good! College has kept me super busy! On a side note I just read your post about graduation. (Yes I am currently shamelessly stalking your blog trying to catch up on all the posts I’ve missed) and I just wanted to say that I totally feel you about the whole high school experience. I made friends and everything and it was nice but (especially coming from a kind of bad school) everyone saw graduation as this huge thing and for me it was just a small thing that didn’t feel like it meant much. (I totally tried to convince my mom that I totally didn’t need to go to the ceremony. She did not agree) Coming out of my first year of college and looking back I can’t believe how different my high school experience was from college. It’s so so so much easier to fin a friend group where you just really fit in. I guess that’s kind of what I was leading up to. No matter what kind of school you go to there’s going to be so many more kinds of people. There are so many more options for classes. And absolutely no one pressures you to take hard classes (mostly because they’re all hard in their own ways.) I can’t wait to hear all about your college experience though! I expect posts on it! I think you’re going to have a fabulous time!
(So sorry for any typos. I’m on my phone and autocorrect hates me)

  2. Wow you really have had an eventful month! But in a fantastic way. Congrats on graduating! Also, that’s really cool that your school has an all-night after prom thing. I was thinking as soon as I read that that would be great for keeping the students safe, but that’s also great for anyone whose parents are strict and wouldn’t let them go somewhere unsupervised or whatever. And yay, now you get to do dorm room shopping!

Your “posts to look out for” section is cracking me up lol.

Anyway, I’m glad you had such a great month, and I’m sure there will be more to come soon!

    • Thank you, Kristen! I’m glad you like the “posts to look out for” section. 🙂 I really have no idea what posts I’ll be posting, though. I guess that’s the problem you have to face when scheduling posts means writing them a few hours ahead of time. Hehe.

  3. Happy belated 18th and congrats on graduating and good luck with your college orientation.

Your monthly post idea is a good one as it’s good to check in every so often and stay in contact!

    • Thank you, Deborah! 🙂
I decided to do monthly posts after reading and being inspired by those of some other bloggers’. That and I’m a bit too lazy to do weekly ones. Haha.

  4. Many happy returns on turning 18:). One of those keynote birthdays – or do you have to wait till 21 in your neck of the woods to get to do all the fun stuff? It sounds like a wonderful June and I, too, think the all-night Prom sounds a fantastic way of prolonging the excitement in a safe, controlled environment. Hardly a surprise that reading wasn’t hugely high on the list of your priorities, but the joy of books is that they will always be there when you are feeling in the mood. Have a great week-end.

    • Thank you!
Unfortunately, I have to wait until I turn 21 for the real party to begin (or so I’m told). But I can now legally have a NetGalley account so I’m not complaining. 😉

  5. Your June sounds like so much fun! Happy belated birthday, and I hope you enjoyed all your graduation-related festivities. I’m right there with you; June was busy for me as well, what with graduation and parties and such.

As for the books, I hope you like The Unfinished Life of Addison Stone! I really enjoyed that one (I just reviewed it, actually) – the multimedia format is so fascinating.

Have a great July and pre-college summer, and good luck with all your preparations and dorm room shopping!

    • Thank you, Emily and congratulations on graduation! 🙂
I really loved The Unfinished Life of Addison Stone. It’s so underrated. I agree! The multimedia included is so interesting. I think it adds another dimension to the book and makes the story way more believable. I actually thought it was a nonfiction novel when I first read it lol.
      Good luck to you too!

  6. Happy 18th! I love the sound of that post-prom event. I wish the schools here did something like that. Instead it ends up being parents who end up organizing something. You got some great books! Those sales always end up getting us. Have fun dorm room shopping! Have a great week!

    • Thank you, Katherine!
I wish we weren’t so easily sold to buy things. Heck, I’m sitting here right now contemplating if I should buy more books in the last hours of the Fourth of July sales. Someone help me!

  7. Happy birthday! High school graduation wasn’t as monumental an experience for me as it seems it is for you. We were just ready to get the heck out of there! It sounds like you had a fabulous time! June wasn’t busy for me, but I still don’t know where the time went!

    • Thank you, Charlie! 🙂
I think it was only really monumental because so many things happened around that time. There was a huge build-up, but I honestly couldn’t wait to be done with high school.
