55 Questions About Reading and Books – Part 2

Posted August 5, 2014 by Emily in Other / 3 Comments

So this is the continuation of last Tuesday’s post. Basically, this post contains my answers to the last 28 questions from a questionnaire created at The Literary Lollipop. So…

28. Favorite reading snack?

I try not to eat while I’m reading (well at least while I’m reading books I own in an attempt to try to keep them clean. That being said, I usually like to eat popcorn or chips or popcorn chips.

29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.

Nevermore by James Patterson. It’s the last book in the Maximum Ride series and a lot of my friends really really liked it. I hated it and now I’m starting to question their taste in books.

30. How often do you agree with the critics about about a book?

Well, it depends. I usually disagree with the really harsh ones, but agree with the ones that share my opinion.

31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?

I feel really bad, unless I really didn’t like the book. But even then…

32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you choose?

I can sort of read in Chinese… but I’d like to be a lot more proficient. A lot more. It would also be nice to be able to read French. It would make all those years of taking Francais worth it.

33. Most intimidating book you’ve read?

Definitely The Art of the Personal Essay. I don’t really know if it counts – it’s a collection of essays – but it’s like 5000 pages long, weighs like 20 pounds as a paperback and required reading for school.

34. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?

Insurgent by Veronica Roth. I really really loved reading Divergent but I got scared to read the sequel.

35. Favorite Poet?

Ummm…Robert Frost???

36. How many books do you usually have checked out from the library at any given time?

Haha, nowadays like 2-5, but in the past it, aka when I had more time to read, the number of books checked out was anywhere from 2-50. The library wouldn’t let me check out more than 50 items at a time. Something about saving my moms wallet and preventing her from having a heart attack. Whatever that was supposed to mean.

37. How often do you return books to the library unread?

Uh, like half of the time. What can I say? I’m a high school student… (yeah, that’s the only excuse I have right not. It might take me a while, just give me a minute or two, to come up with a better one).

38. Favorite fictional character?

Hmmm, either Katarina Bishop from Heist Society by Ally Carter or Katsa from Graceling by Kristin Cashore. It has nothing to do with the fact I like characters whose names can be shortened to Kat.

39. Favorite fictional villain?

I don’t know if you would call him a villain, but Gally from The Maze Runner by James Dashner.

40. Books you’re most likely to bring on vacation?

Any YA book. I’m not that picky.

41. The longest you’ve gone without reading?

Depends what you mean when you say reading. I read everyday. But the longest I’ve gone without reading a book would be about 2 weeks. Hey, it was finals week. And then there’s the fact I didn’t start reading until I was like 4 or 5 years old.

42. Name a book you could/would not finish.

I just recently DNFed Exile by Kevin Emerson…

43. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?

Not much really. When I really get into a book, it’s like I’m in my own little world. But if my mom (or my stomach) is demanding that it’s time to eat…

44. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?

I’m really picky about which film adaptations I actually watch so I have to say my favorite would be the Harry Potter series. You can’t ask me to choose!

45. Most disappointing film adaptation?

PERCY JACKSON! PERCY JACKSON. Percy Jackson. I really thought it had the potential to go somewhere as a frachise (ew) but it bombed. It sunk so deep that not even Poseidon would be retrieve it from the bottom of the sea (get it? Poseidon, god of the seas…? Whatever.)

46. Most money you’ve ever spent in a bookstore at one time?

Ha ha. My mom will kill me if she finds out so…

47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?

About 50% of the time. Usually it’s when the book is close to being overdue. I have to see if it’s worth renewing or paying a fine to read.

48. What would cause you to stop reading a book halfway through?

If I found the main character really annoying and unlikable. Or if the plot feels reused. Or if it’s really predicable.

49. Do you like to keep your books organized?

Yes, I do. But at the moment I don’t have enough shelf space so a bunch of them are sitting sadly in a box next to my book shelves all unorganized.

50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once they’ve been read?

It depends if I liked the book or not. If I liked it, I keep it. If I prefer to never see it again, it goes to a friend or it gets donated.

51. Are there any books that you’ve been avoiding?

Yeah, just about the rest of every series whose first book I loved read. So basically the rest of the Divergent series, the rest of the Delirium series, the rest of the Nightshade series, the last book of the Mortal Instruments series, any book that I think is over hyped, I could go on and on.

52. Name a book that made you angry.

Nevermore by James Patterson made me so so angry. I was expecting a grand finale for a spectacular series. Instead I get a finale that barely even qualifies as a finale.

53. A book you didn’t expect to like but did?

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. There was a lot of hype surrounding it and I have learned the hard way that a lot of hype often leads to a lot of disappointment. Plus, I’m more of a fantasy, dystopian girl. I don’t read books that tell of events that could happen in real life very often.

54. A book you expected to like but didn’t?

Fire by Kristin Cashore. I loved Graceling and later, Bitterblue but I could never get into Fire.

55. Favorite guilt-free guilty pleasure reading?

Romance contemporary novels???

What about you?
What is one book you thought you would like but didn’t?
