Review:

This Night So Dark is a novella that comes after These Broken Stars. It’s pretty much about one of Tarver’s experiences in the army. If you haven’t read it and love the series, it’s definitely worth a read (it’s a free ebook!). Just as a side not: chronologically, the novella takes place after the first book (sort of…), but I read This Shattered World, the second book in the series, before reading this.

I really liked how the story was told. It was told through flashbacks and I felt like that way there was more reflection involved. I loved how the story offered more insight about how Tarver first got his medals and how he feels about them. I also like how This Shattered World kinda mentions it. Barely but still.

While I generally liked it, I felt that This Night So Dark was a bit short and choppy. I thought that there were some plot holes and I was left with a handful of questions. Some of them dealt with the plot. Some of them dealt with the aftermath. View Spoiler »

In Conclusion…

Overall, I liked reading This Night So Dark. It’s definitely worth a read if you like Tarver since it’s basically all about him. On another note, I have to say, reading This Night So Dark made me want to read more about Tarver’s adventures as a soldier. Especially ones that involve Lee. Maybe the ones hinted at in her flashbacks/delusions?
