RATING:
Eighteen-year-old Jemmie Carmichael has grown up surrounded by magic in the quiet town of Hawthorne, New York. In her world, magic users are called "kindled," and Jemmie would count herself among them if only she could cast a simple spell without completely falling apart. It doesn't help that she was also recently snubbed by Crowe, the dangerous and enigmatic leader of the Black Devils kindled motorcycle gang and the unofficial head of their turf.
When the entire kindled community rolls into Hawthorne for an annual festival, a rumor begins spreading that someone is practicing forbidden magic. Then people start to go missing. With threats closing in from every side, no one can be trusted. Jemmie and Crowe will have to put aside their tumultuous history to find their loved ones, and the only thing that might save them is the very flaw that keeps Jemmie from fully harnessing her magic. For all her years of feeling useless, Jemmie may just be the most powerful kindled of all.

Review:
Okay, before I get started there are two things I want to say. First, I know I probably could have picked a title for this post. You know, one that doesn’t make it seem like I like red horned evil creatures and people who steal from others. But whatever.
Secondly, I really need the sequel. Like right now. ASAP. You can’t just leave me with an ending like that!
If it wasn’t already obvious, I really enjoyed reading Devils & Thieves. It has quite a magical concoction of elements. It’s hard to beat the combination of magic, motorcycle gangs, mystery, action, and some romance. It was so charming! So good!
I was in such a reading slump before I picked Devils & Thieves up but once I started I could not stop. It was so addicting. It was like I was charmed to keep reading. The plot and the romance really kept me flipping the pages faster (even though I had the magical abilities of a seer for some chapters) than I’ve read any other book this year.
The characters weren’t bad either. To be honest, I was feeling a bit meh about Jemmie at first, but she grew on me pretty quickly. She went through quite the character development and is the main reason why I can’t wait to read the sequel – I HAVE to know what happens next in her story.
As much as I enjoyed reading Devils & Thieves it’s hard to ignore a number of clichés included. I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t name the ones I noticed but some of them were more annoying than others. And predictable… they’re probably what gave me the powers to see glimpses of the future.
In Conclusion…
Devils & Thieves casts quite an enchantment spell with its combination of magic, motorcycle gangs, mystery, and romance. The spell was probably cast by its characters who were just as charming as the plot. But while I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, it was a bit hard to ignore a number of clichés that made the book somewhat predictable.
