RATING:
A summer road trip changes everything in this unforgettable new tale from acclaimed author Katie McGarry.
For new high school graduate Echo Emerson, a summer road trip out west with her boyfriend means getting away and forgetting what makes her so... different. It means seeing cool sights while selling her art at galleries along the way. And most of all, it means almost three months alone with Noah Hutchins, the hot, smart, soul-battered guy who’s never judged her. Echo and Noah share everything — except the one thing Echo’s just not ready for.
But when the source of Echo’s constant nightmares comes back into her life, she has to make some tough decisions about what she really wants — even as foster kid Noah’s search for his last remaining relatives forces them both to confront some serious truths about life, love, and themselves.
Now, with one week left before college orientation, jobs and real life, Echo must decide if Noah's more than the bad-boy fling everyone warned her he'd be. And the last leg of an amazing road trip will turn... seriously epic.
Review:
I cannot tell you how long I waited to read Breaking the Rules. Echo and Noah are definitely my favorite couple and characters in the series. (But to be fair, I haven’t finished reading the series yet). That being said, it was so awesome to finally get to read more about Echo and Noah.
I really liked their journey and how far they have come since the beginning of Pushing the Limits. I mean this both physically (road trip!) and mentally. It feels as if they have matured, which is a good thing. Their journey has not been all smooth sailing with rainbows and butterflies. They encountered a few difficulties in the way, and I appreciated the way they were written. It really added to their characters and the way the they handled their problems made me like them even more.
The romance was nice and HOT. A lot more than in Pushing the Limits. There were definitely a lot of fangirling moments going on while I was reading. But that wasn’t the best part of Breaking the Rules.
To me, the best part of Breaking the Rules, was not only being able to see Echo and Noah’s relationship develop, but also to learn more about them and being able to dive deeper into their backstories. Breaking the Rules gives us more information about who Echo and Noah really are and what made them that way. View Spoiler »
I could not put this book down. Once I got it, I just kept reading it. I think I read the whole entire book in one sitting. And guess what? Isaiah and Beth both make an appearance in Breaking the Rules too! 🙂
In Conclusion…
Breaking the Rules was a really satisfying read. Ever since I finished reading Pushing the Limits, I’ve felt a thirst for more Echo and Noah – I needed more of them. I felt like I only got tiny sips of water with the rest of the books in the series, but Breaking the Rules finally, finally, quenched my thirst… sort of. I still want more. Lol.
