Top Ten Books Set Outside the United States

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish.

I thought it would be easy to come up with a list for this week- after all, there are thousands of books in the world. They can’t all be set in the US right? It sure felt that way, especially since it took me an hour to come up with more than one book. I guess that’s what I get for being an American book nerd. But without further ado, here are my top ten books set outside the United States.

1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak takes place in WWII Germany.

2. Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff takes Japan a long, long time ago.

3. Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon is set in Ireland.

4. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins takes place in Paris, France aka the one of the most romanctic cities on Earth.

Umm… hold on. I need some more time! ?

5. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling takes place in the UK. I’m pretty sure that Hogwarts is in Scotland.

6. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead mostly takes place in the US but the series does spend some time in Baia, Russia.

7. Heist Society by Ally Carter is all over the map. From New York to Italy to France to the UK to Poland, I had a hard time to keeping track of all the places where the characters traveled.

Now, for my cop outs. Technically, no one said fictional places didn’t count. ?

8. The Pledge by Kimberly Derting takes place in the fake (I think?) Kingdom of Ludania.

9. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner takes place in outer space. The last time I chekced, outer space is not one of the 50 states of America.

10. Graceling by Kristin Cashore is set in the fictional Seven Kingdoms.

Whew! We made it. Seriously though, coming up with that list was a lot harder than I thought it would be.

What is your favorite books set outside the United States?
