Today is the first day of school sorry I mean the Back to School Book Blogger Challenge hosted by Rachel @ Parajunkee. Classes (I mean the challenge) takes place over the course of nine days. And you can see the lesson plan below to learn more about what we will be learning / teaching on each day.
The Story of One of My Favorite Teachers
Now I have a lot of favorite teachers so I can’t say the one featured in this story is my absolute favorite, but she’s pretty high up there. My 5th grade teacher loves to read. Her favorite book just happens to be Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White and she loved reading it out loud to the class. Her “reading time”, as we called it was special because having it read to you by a real person, not a recording, was just a lot more fun. She would make hand gestures and everything and it was nice to sit on the floor and just listen.
Some other memories I have with her was that she really like these big non fiction books. Now when I say big, I’m referring to their actual size, but they didn’t actually contain as many words as it sounds – a lot the books were pictures. She had a really cool book about art that she liked to share. But my favorite of those big books was her book on Greek mythology. She was the one that got me interested (and obsessed) about Greek mythology. And subsequently, she was the one that got me into the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan.
What is your favorite memory with your teacher / mentor?
Great story 🙂 The only teacher I really remember, I don’t remember her in class, I remember her in the street, walking home, followed by a bunch of kids who loved her too much to let her go home without accompanying her and enjoying her company some more 🙂
That sounds like a great teacher. I wish I had more of them…
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
