5 Hidden Gems I Read Recently

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish.

This week’s topic is Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books I’ve Read In The Past Year Or So. I know, I know, the name of this meme is Top Ten Tuesday, not Top Five Tuesday but five was honestly the most I could come up with. Look, I didn’t exactly read a lot of books last year so I don’t have a lot of options to choose from… ?

5 underrated books and hidden gems

Through the Dark by Alexandra Bracken

If you know me, you probably know of my love for The Darkest Minds. Through the Dark is a novella bindup for the triology and is definitely worth a read. Especially if you want a hint of what Ruby, Liam, Chubs, Zu, and everyone else has been up to after the events in In the Afterlight.

Zero Day by Jan Gangsei

It’s a political thriller that I’m surprised not many other people have read. Kept me on my toes the whole time.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

More misjudged than underrated, I was really surprised how much I actually enjoyed reading Vampire Academy. It doesn’t have the best reputation for being a fantasy novel, especially in comparison to books like Throne of Glass, but I really liked Rose and would rather read about her than Celaena any day. (Please don’t kill me!)

Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter (10th Anniversary Edition)

When Ally announced the new editions I was excited. When I saw the covers I was disappointed. But I still think the declassified epilogues are worth a read. Not quite sure if they’re worth buying a new set (I’m really not a fan of the covers), but definitely take the time to hunt down a copy and read the new epilogues. Especially the one in United We Spy. 😉

The Grift of the Magi by Ally Carter

Okay so The Grift of the Magi may be the highest rated book I read in 2016, but I still think it’s a hidden gem. Not many people know of its release since it wasn’t published through Disney like usual.

That’s all I got.
What about you?
What underrated/hidden gems have you read recently?

  1. Love seeing all the Ally Carter books on this list! So fun. I still need to read the GG series though I did really enjoy Ally’s “All Fall Down.” Also, love your design – the penguin is adorable!
